Goatwhore are a band from Louisiana that are a very well known name in extreme metal and plays a mixture of black, death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Rage Of The Merciless" which will be released by Metal Blade Records in July of 2014.
A very dark and heavy black metal sound starts off the album along with some blast beats and aggressive vocals which have a more crustcore feeling to them and after a couple of minutes the band starts incorporating more death metal influences and dark sounding melodies into their musical sound.
The Guitars on this album a re even more black metal influenced than previous albums and there are also a great amount of thrash and crust elements being thrown into the music and some of the later songs also show speed and traditional metal influences and the band also brings in a great mixture of both mid paced and fast parts throughout the recording.
When lead guitars are added in the music they are in a more old school thrash metal direction along with some melodies being added in at times and while they are absent on the first few tracks they start coming in and out as the album progresses and on of the later songs brings in a brief use of clean playing before returning back to a heavier direction and adding in some death metal growls with the more black metal influenced screams and they also add in a good dose of hardcore punk with their old school black/thrash metal sound on the later tracks towards the end of the album.
Goatwhore remain true to their mixture of black, death and thrash metal as well as having some punk rock style energy in their musical sound, the production sounds very professional and the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Anti Christian themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Goatwhore and if you a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Poisonous Existence In Reawakening" "Baring Teeth For Revolt" "Nocturnal Configuration Of The Accursed" and "Externalize this Hidden Savagery". 8 out of 10.
