Vorus  are  a  solo  project  from  Romania  that  plays  a  hideous  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  his 2017  demo  "Chamber  Of  Laments"  which  was  released  by  Death  To  Pieces  Records.

Melodic  guitar  leads  and  heavy  riffs  start  off  the  demo  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  morbid  sounding  melodies  and  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  growls  can  be  heard.

A  great  amount  of  80's  and  90's  influences  can  be  heard  in  the  musical  style  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  time  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  fashion  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  always  remains  heavy  and  brutal.

Dead Medusa Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We are a four piece, guitar oriented, good time death metal band from mid Missouri.

2.Recently you have released your first ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
I describe our band is blackened death, cosmic thrash. We write riff ripping songs, with groove, brutal breakdowns, gut wrenching gutturals, and guitar solos that make your uncle Lester want to light up a joint and put on his old snakeskin boots.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
EP is a concept, following a man through the final stages of a declining human existence on earth. Each song follows the storyline in order following the protagonist through his experiences in war, assimilation to a civilian life, space travel, cyber genetic engineering, and then ultimately becoming a mutanoid renegade existing in the last civilization on earth known as "Riff City"

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dead Medusa'?
Dead Medusa is a character, a muse. She's an antihero oracle that has risen from the dead in this comic book universe story being told by the band.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Actually back in July, we played our hometown at Rose Music Hall to a PACKED house, and totally destroyed the place. It was a milestone moment for us, particularly with all the ups and downs, hard work, and sacrifice that's been put in over the past year.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We're bouncing around a bunch over the next couple months, doing the weekend warrior thing. Working on a small tour in November. Gearing up to really hit it hard next spring and summer hopefully with some longer tours, and festivals. All of us still have full-time jobs too, so it's a lot to juggle but we'll do we can.

7.Currently you are unsigned are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
We are currently unsigned, and I wouldn't say that we're necessarily looking for a label right now, but we are definitely open to management and support. However we will be particular on who we work with as we feel we have a very strong product and a lot to offer, not to mention that we come this far on our own, we are self-sufficient, and  we are confident in our abilities to continue pushing forward.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of extreme metal?
Globally the feedback has been great so far, again we're not huge but was surprised at the reaction from folks outside the states. Recently we've been getting new fans from areas we've never even been to or at all familiar with.

9.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
A full length will probably be a year or so off, we plan to spend the next year really pounding the pavement, pushing the EP, and trying to get our name out there.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nwadays?
Oh man, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, slayer, Megadeth, Black Sabbath (specifically the DIO years! Fuck Ya the DIO years!) All the way up to Pantera lamb of God, Meshuggah, Mastodon and Gojira!

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
artwork, comics, sci-fi and action films. Just a general lust for life, trying to find meaning and purpose on a tiny blue rock floating through space.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Life's too short to be focused on negativity. Spend your life working towards your dreams or you will spend your life working for someone else's. Be unapologetic in your existence, and show compassion towards one another.

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avant  garde  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  8  out  of  10.

Rebel Wizard/The Warning Of One/Prosthetic Records/2017 EP Review

Australia's  solo  project  Rebel  Wizard  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  continues  the  black  and  heavy  metal  mixture  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  ep  "The  Warning  Of  One"  which  will  be  released  on  August  18th  by  Prosthetic  Records.

Clean  playing  and  melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  and  the  music  also  incorporates  a  great  amount  of  traditional  metal  elements  and  all  of t he  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem.

While  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  the  black  metal  vocals  gives  the  songs  a  more  modern  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  mixing  in  elements  of  thrash  at  times  and  the  music  always  remains  very  heavy  and  spoken  word  parts  are  used  on  the  closing  track.

Rebel  Wizard  remains  true  to  the  black  and  thrash  metal  mixture  of  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  have  a  concept  to  them  with  every  track  starting  with  the  letter  'one'  and  cover  negativity  and  nihilism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Rebel  Wizard  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "One  I  Know"  and  "One  I  Call".  8  out  of  10.

A  very  war  orientated  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  and  also  brings  in  the  atmosphere  of  an  epic  movie  before  going  into  a  very  heavy  thrash  metal  influenced  direction  where  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the recording  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  vocals.

Atmospheric  synths  and  ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  touches  of  classical  and  opera  music  before  adding  in  drum  beats  and  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  doom  metal  feeling  and  all  3  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  an  aggressive  80's  style  of  extreme  metal  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  thrash  and  first  wave  black  metal  along  with  some  touches  of  death  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  metal  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  synths are  also  used  on  the  later  tracks  and  melodc  vocals  ae  also used  briefly.

Winds Of Leng interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

JT - The earliest version of the band formed in summer of 2006, with the founding members all starting over after leaving the band they all played together in before. After a few years of shuffling members trying to find the right line up and working on developing our sound the band fell dormant for a while, but became active again in 2012 and then everything just seemed to click and there was a new sense of focus. At the moment the band is a three piece, with two of the three founding members remaining.

2.In June you had released an album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

JT - Death/Black metal in short. We really went back and drew inspiration from the albums that made us want to play this stuff in the first place, or at least I did, and really drew inspiration from those without becoming a tribute band. There's a lot going on, some HM-2 stuff some black metal, there's a lot of elements in there. I think one of the strengths of the recording is the variety.

3.The band has been around since 2006 but waited until this year to release an album, can you tell us a little bit more about the long wait?

JT - Like I said above it took a few years to find the current lineup and then we were inactive for a while. When we reformed we started working on this album, but we recorded it ourselves and it took the member who spearheaded that whole side of things some time to put together the required gear and learn the whole process. We took our time for sure!

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

JT - Horror. Sums up the whole thing. A lot of apocalyptic stuff in there too. There are some songs inspired by some of our favorite films and books, and some of my own ideas. The album art is a pretty good representation of the subject matter too. there's a little something from each song in there.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Winds Of Leng'?

JT - Leng comes from H.P. Lovecraft, and is also used by another author we drew inspiration from, namely Brian Lumley, and fit the horror related side of the band. The rest we just thought sounded good.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

JT - To date we have only been a studio band, but now that the recording is out there we have a new rehearsal spot and the three of us are getting tight playing with each other again, then we will look for members to make a live lineup.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

JT - Not yet, but hopefully in the future.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

JT - Definitely open to the possibility. There has been a little contact, but nothing happening as of yet.

9. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

JT - We've been blown away because we're complete nobodies and we've received an insane amount of positive feedback and some really great reviews too.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

JT- Darker. Looking forward to working with some doomier elements and the idea of a concept is really exciting to me. We won't abandon our sound though. New material is already in the works and sounding good!

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

JT - For me I like to read and write. Listening to and collecting music of course. And horror movies.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

JT - Thanks so much for anyone who takes the time to check us out. More to come!
